Hazlemere Fete 2021 sadly Cancelled

Despite extensive investigations, discussions, Zoom meetings and a site visit, the Fete Committee regrets we are unable to run a Fete this August Bank Holiday Monday.  Amongst the reasons are:-

  • We have now missed 6 months of preparation time and there is uncertainty over the availability of some of the resources and activities.
  • To put track and trace into operation with this type of large walk-in, non-ticketed event is very difficult.
  • We cannot control maximum numbers (reduced from previous years) declared to Buckinghamshire Council in advance. We would also need to keep local roads clear.
  • We do not want to stage a disappointing event with limited support on the ground.

Several other local events of the walk-in type have also been cancelled e.g. Hyde Heath Fete, Littlewick Show ( Maidenhead ) , Downley Day and Prestwood Steam Rally.

It is possible that like last year, Hazlemere Community Centre may run a smaller event on August Bank Holiday Monday – please continue to monitor their Facebook Page and web site https://www.hcacommunity.org.uk/. If so they will have our support.

Hazlemere Fete Brochure 2021

Nevertheless, to help promote local businesses and local organisations we are pleased to have been able to produce our annual brochure, distributed by volunteers to 8000 properties in the villages of  Hazlemere, Tylers Green, Widmer End, Holmer Green and Penn.  We have also included an updated list of local organisations and local defibrillators. We are enormously grateful to the team of voluntary first responders who help to maintain defibrillators, augmenting the work of the Ambulance service.  See https://scas.charity/. Thanks to all who have helped create this publication, the proceeds to be used for community purposes including future fetes.

STOP PRESS

Finally, we are glad to announce that the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire hope to be able to stage a flypast with a Spitfire on Bank Holiday Monday. As well as flying over Hazlemere, we are asking them to widen the flight area to cover all the villages where this brochure is delivered – we are sure a population of 20,000 people will appreciate the distinctive sound of a Rolls Royce Merlin engine from the war years. Please look out for a flypast timing on local Facebook networks in Hazlemere, Holmer Green, Penn, Tylers Green and Widmer End, and give him a wave !

Details will also be posted on the Fete website: https://e-voice.org.uk/hazlemere-fete/

With our best wishes,

The Hazlemere Fete Committee
